Who writes our content
Our guides, check pages and research are written and published by the CarCheckUp team at Milena Software Ltd. We are a small team. We don't present articles as written or reviewed by named motoring experts, and we don't use invented author profiles: content is published under the CarCheckUp name.
Sources we use
- Official guidance from GOV.UK, the DVLA and the DVSA, for tax, MOT, registration and keeper rules.
- Legislation and industry codes where they set the rules we explain, such as the insurance industry's code of practice for write-off categories and consumer protection law for vehicles bought on finance.
- The records our checks use (see our data sources) and the aggregated results of checks run on CarCheckUp.
Where a figure or rule comes from an outside source, we name the source. Where it comes from our own data, we say so and state the dataset.
Research and statistics
Figures from our own data describe vehicles checked on CarCheckUp, which are the vehicles people chose to check, not a random sample of UK vehicles. Every research page states the number of vehicles, the period, how each figure is calculated and its limitations. We only publish anonymised, aggregated figures: nothing identifies a vehicle, a registration or a person.
Keeping content up to date
Rules change: MOT rules, tax bands, write-off categories. We review pages when a rule we explain changes and when readers tell us something is out of date. Research pages show the date their data was taken.
Corrections
If you find a mistake, email [email protected] or use our contact form with the page address. We check every report and correct confirmed errors. A correction that changes a figure or a conclusion is noted on the page.
Our product and advertising
CarCheckUp sells vehicle history reports, and our guides mention our own checks where they are relevant. We don't name or rank other vehicle check providers. The site shows ads served by Google; advertisers have no say in what we write.
