How to Check ULEZ

You can check your vehicle's compliance directly at Transport for London. In the meantime, we are excited to announce the integration of our system with the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) check feature. This integration will make it easier for users to determine if their vehicles meet the ULEZ standards.

Understanding ULEZ

The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is designed to reduce harmful emissions in London. Vehicles must meet specific emissions standards to avoid a daily charge when driving within the ULEZ area. These standards vary based on vehicle type and emission category.

ULEZ Emission Standards

To comply with ULEZ, vehicles must meet the following Euro standards:
Larger vehicles such as lorries, vans over 3.5 tonnes GVW, and buses or coaches over 5 tonnes GVW are subject to the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) standards instead of ULEZ.

How to Check Your Vehicle

You can determine if your vehicle meets the ULEZ standards by checking your vehicle's Euro emissions standard. For newer vehicles, this information is often listed in section D.2 of the vehicle log book (V5C). You can also check your vehicle's compliance status online at the TfL website.

Euro Standards and Their Implementation Dates

Euro standards set limits on emissions of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) and Particulate Matter (PM) from engines. These standards have been implemented over time:

Example ULEZ Details

Let's consider a few examples to illustrate the ULEZ requirements:
Vehicle Type Compliance Requirement
Petrol Car (2010 Model) Likely meets Euro 4 standards for NOx. This vehicle would be compliant with ULEZ.
Diesel Van (2013 Model) Needs to meet Euro 6 standards for NOx and PM. If it doesn't, the vehicle would not be compliant.
Motorcycle (2006 Model) Needs to meet Euro 3 standards. If it doesn’t, it would not be compliant with ULEZ.

Frequently Asked Questions About ULEZ

What is ULEZ?

The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is an area in London where vehicles must meet specific emissions standards to avoid a daily charge.

How do I know if my vehicle is ULEZ compliant?

You can check your vehicle’s compliance by entering its details on the TfL ULEZ check website.

What are the penalties for non-compliance?
